Golf Drill

Downswing Drill: In order to get your hips starting the downswing you are going to need a swing aid. Simply take an old club and cut off the clubhead right at the ferrule. Save the clubhead, you can always reshaft the club later if you need to but hey, your swing is more important now. There are several uses for a shaft so after you fix your downswing problem; hold onto it because I will give you other ways to use it in future drills. Take your stance and then stick the shaft into the ground parallel to your left leg (if you are a RH golfer) just on the outside of your left heel. The goal here is to feel your left hip “bumping” the shaft when you begin your downswing. This drill seems easy, but make sure to keep your head behind the ball while you are working on it. Your entire body should not move toward the target, only your lower body. Remember, repetition is the key and this is a great drill to do in your backyard without hitting balls. Any questions please email me at gm@augustaranchgolf.com!
